Ive been a patient of Virginia Center For Women for twenty two years, my first daughter of 4 girls was delivered by this team of obstetricians. This practice was phenomenal then, and now, as of today, they are still super awesome, fantastic, wonderful and great. Their patient care is unmatched!

Dr. Mathison is what is wrong with women’s healthcare. There are some great doctors at this practice however after the experience I had with Dr.Mathison I will never come back here. After having horrible experiences with birth control in the past I had a lot of questions and concerns about trying it again but wanted to/needed to- and after being patronized and dismissed by a very sarcastic and impatient Dr.Mathison I’m more discouraged and disappointed in women’s healthcare than before. I don’t feel I was treated as an individual or listened to and I did not receive the care that I needed.UPDATE: Dr Mathison personally called me about ten minutes after I left this review to tell me I would not be missed and hang up on me. Very unprofessional and disgusting behavior.

Do not go to this practice if you want to feel heard. They disregard any and all concerns you have. Front desk staff can hardly be bothered to direct your call. The providers are good as long as you catch them on a good day, and then they show their true colors.Just all around do not recommend them.

My first visit my husband and I received news from the doctor that my pregnancy was 80%-90% sure was called a missed miscarriage but to be on safe side, they would schedule for me to return in 1-2 weeks for another ultrasound for confirmation and discuss treatment options in event I do not pass on my own. I was advised to go to emergency room if I experienced heavy bleeding and to call their office to cancel if I passed on my own.I received a phone call requesting to post pone my follow up ultrasound to allow more time. I contacted the office to let them know that I received their message but no longer needed the ultrasound as I did experience the miscarriage and currently passed everything therefore needed to just cancel. I was informed that I was not scheduled for an ultrasound and would only be for a follow up and advised to keep appointment.I come to my follow up appointment and was brought back into the ultrasound room. I told the tech that I had called prior to my appointment and informed them that I passed the pregnancy and did not need an ultrasound and the front desk informed me I was not scheduled for an ultrasound so was confused and that I was still currently bleeding. She apologized that she was not aware and that she would get me a pad to lay on. I replied that I did not need the ultrasound and was given a response that the doctor is going to need it. After already expressing to the front desk on my previous phone call and telling the tech twice that I did not need the ultrasound since I passed everything the last thing I wanted to do was argue with the tech, especially when emotionally trying to process my miscarriage therefore I had the ultrasound.Dr. Grey than spent approximately less than 2 minutes with us confirming that the pregnancy did indeed pass but good news was that it passed on its own and we did not need to discuss options if it didnt and to wait another month and try again & recommended I return for a pap smear appointment.That follow up appointment I was than billed $660. When I called the billing dept to inquire why I was billed $660 on a procedure I expressed to two different team members I did not need and told I was not scheduled for ultrasound never mind the large charge for the two minute follow up exam with doctor. I was told they would relay my concerns to the office manager and I would get a call back since the office manager was gone for the day already (12 pm on a Monday). I expressed wanting to cancel all my future appointments and I would pay my balance when the office manager called me.That was two weeks ago and I have not yet received a call back but certainly have received multiple e-mail reminders about the balance and statement in mail.So in total for my two appointments with their office, I was billed a total of almost $1,400 for two ultrasounds, maybe 5 minutes of the doctors time at first visit, about two minutes the second and a pregnancy test.The lack of empathy and communication in that practice is reason enough to avoid.

I want to express my serious disappointment following my recent visit to the Center for Women in Virginia in Chesapeake this afternoon. I did not expect to feel dismissed and disrespected by a healthcare provider, particularly in a field as sensitive and personal as women’s health. This experience was not only uncomfortable but has left me questioning the competence and compassion of your practice.During my appointment, the doctor showed a blatant lack of empathy, inserting personal opinions rather than respecting my choices about my own body. My perspective and decisions were completely disregarded, overshadowed by unwelcome, unsolicited viewpoints that had no place in a healthcare setting. I expect my healthcare provider to listen, to respect my autonomy, and to offer support—not to impose their personal beliefs on me.Frankly, I am appalled that communication, empathy, and respect were nowhere to be found in your practice. These are the absolute basics of patient care, especially when discussing issues that are as personal and potentially emotional as women’s health. If your team is unable to uphold these fundamental standards, then you are failing your patients in a major way.I sincerely hope you’ll take this feedback seriously, not only to improve your practice but to avoid further alienating patients who come to you expecting care and support, not judgment and disregard.

The doctors are great, if you can get any of the office people to answer a phone or not go to lunch 30 minutes-an hour early with no one to actually be helpful or take messages while theyre out.Update your answering service if the times are incorrect-people are calling during the correct hours and not getting any help or service because youre not in office at those times even.Update: $240 later-i was booked for a cancellation appointment they had last minute. I was verbally berated by a nurse over math that can’t be correct to begin with & the told I had ‘emphasized my pain to get a more urgent appointment’ (not true, you’re just ignorant, brash & none of you communicate with each other in the office-not my fault or problem), made to cry alone in the exam room while waiting for the doctor. Wouldn’t allow me to actually get an ultrasound for any answers for my issues despite me telling them ahead of time when making my appointment that I wanted/needed an ultrasound. I was there for maybe a total of 25 minutes-and was rushed at every point of my appointment. $240 for the rudest nurse I have ever met in my life to make me cry, take my blood pressure, get ZERO information & then basically told to piss off unless I want to have a child currently. “Maybe go to planned parenthood”gee thanks, I’ll be sure to do that now that I know you all are AWFUL PEOPLE.Not sure how y’all usually treat people, but I know after my entire adult gyno experience for the past 15 years(all of which I have come to this god forsaken office)- I will never set foot in the building again.And if Dr Lauretta’s nurse on 10/16/24 reads this-you’re a terrible person and I hope every single day of your life is exactly the day that you deserve, like the day you gave me yesterday.Train your staff to actually SPEAK to people and not shame them or make them feel worse, or at least not to get verbally AGGRESSIVE with patients. Yall can graduate school, but that doesn’t make you a good choice for a medical profession. I came to you all for help and got this. 25 minutes and the worst day of my adult life. Thank you for absolutely nothing.Update 2: y’all weren’t even correct about the time frame we discussed, which you would’ve known if you’d done the ultrasound as was discussed before making my appointment. Thanks for absolutely nothing but taking $240 from me and making me feel like I had no options. Enjoy hell.

I had a great pregnancy thanks to Dr Loretta and Dr Mathison, I wanted dr Loretta to deliever my baby, but she was busy on my induction date and I got Dr Mathison, she was really great to me in the delivery room, and If I were to have another id want Mathison again!

Dr Mathison is wonderful. Always compassionate and informative. Makes you feel comfortable in the most uncomfortable of situations.

I see Dr. Gray II and he is very good! Very professional and always takes time to have a conversation about questions or concerns. Dr. Gray II is very available to his patients!

I love this practice. The staff is very professional. Dr. Mathison is personal and genuine. The service she provides is just phenomenal!

Dr. Linda Mathison is the best ! She’s very kind, a good listener, caring, knowledgeable and very professional. Any concerns I’ve ever had she addressed them accurately and carefully. She has great bedside manners and she always make me feel comfortable. She’s really good about telling you what she’s going to do before doing it. She explain the process of what’s being done thoroughly. I highly recommend her !Her staff is very kind as well.

I received great care and all staff that took care of me were sweet, professional, and saw me quickly. I was able to change to my birth control quickly and get exactly what I wanted. Place was clean and sanitary.

I genuinely don’t take the time out of my days to write reviews on places & when i read them i typically brush them off (i’ve worked customer service for 6 years).HOWEVER if there was a zero star option, that’s what i’d choose.I originally set an appointment up for April 2, 2024 just to talk about birth control options. When i went in, all was fine and but the nurse was kinda just rude and i felt unwelcome to an extent.she then took me into a patient room and gave me a torn up robe like thing, told me to change & shut the door?i haven’t been to the gynecologist (freshly 21) and i was just confused because there was no conversation on what to expect.my doctor (Dr. Lenny) came in and told me i should’ve taken my bra and underwear off (nobody told me that and it was my first visit) and to put my legs into the stirrups.i was a little uncomfortable and confused but then she told me to breathe and i may feel a little discomfort, then proceeded to give me a pap smear… i was genuinely not prepared or even told that was going to happen before it was literally just happening. i thought she was just giving me a physical EXTERNAL exam (like i have gotten done yearly at my pediatrician)that was uncomfortable for me but in the moment i just felt really dumb and didn’t say anything or voice my concerns.after that, we talked about birth control methods and what would work for me.she told me it would be about 2-3 weeks for my IUD to be received and they would call me to let me know it arrived.It felt very very rushed. my appointment was at 2pm and i left by exactly 2:30. that includes the insurance paperwork, weigh-in, medical background, blood pressure, etc. the doctor was in and out of my patient room in less than 10 minutes.well, as i said, that was April 2nd.Since then i have called once, around the 4 week mark to ask if they’d received my IUD.Receptionist was very standoffish (my husband even pointed it out) & told me they’d call me when it arrived.i’m not a mathematician but the math ain’t mathin’.overall, i know there aren’t a lot of good options in this area for gynecology, but this place is a time suck & would not recommend to a friend. I also hope that the day i called, the receptionist was just having a bad day. it’s scary to have to call a doctors office, and it makes it 10x more difficult when you’re met with hostility.please do better.

If I could give 0 stars I would. I chose this place off of the reviews on dr. Mathison. Supposedly she is nice and careful and seemed trustworthy per the review so I chose her and booked an appointment with her. The first time I met her at my appointment was a disappointment. She was so rude to me and my boyfriend. She rushed the appointment. As this being my 1st time having a baby you can image how disgusting this was for me. She asked at me with her mean face who my boyfriend was rolled her eyes and proceeded to access me. She didn’t say hello to either of us or even address my boyfriend. She looked very mean and while accessing my belly she pressed on my stomach so hard that when I went home I had light blood coming out of me. The next visit to check baby’s heartbeat was the same, she was very rough and caused pain to my stomach. After my exam she took me in her office not saying a word as she did something on her computer. I mentioned my concerns with my hands and feet going numb and bad headaches. She said that’s normal in pregnancy and kept at her computer. I asked her if I should be expecting anything else while pregnant or if she can tell me anything about pregnancy she said no and directed me to get a precook from Amazon… What?? You are my doctor, you are supposed to tell me these things. It is sooo hard finding a doctor who really cares about there job or you in that matter. I really thought she would be different. Every time after when calling about concerns I had been having the nurses (Nicole being the main one) shows no concern and made it seem like it was normal how I was feeling. I booked an appointment with another doctor (dr. Lauretta) for a worsening concern that was never addressed. She took my urine and found I actually had a bad urine infection. It took a month for anyone to listen to me about that!! Being pregnant with any infection is dangerous and no one cared! I started having severe headaches, numbness in my hands, feet and wrist and brought it up in my appointment to dr. Mattison to see why this was happening. She simply said your pregnant it’s normal with no explanation as to why. I am not still having severe headaches and total numbness in my feet and hands and called the nurse (Nicole to report my concerns again. When speaking with her she said all I could do is get a wrist spring. She said I probably had carpal tunnel syndrome it could not verify because I am pregnant. She was very short and showed no care. I expressed how everyone has been acting so nonchalant and not showing any concern at all. She said so what do you want to speak to the office manager? That lady did not care. People like her do not need to be in this field! Having compassion is also needed on top of any degree required for her job. She is a disgrace and makes the whole business look bad. I will be looking for new care. If you chose this place go with dr. Grey sr. He is the only one who seemed to have a great personality. The woman seem bitter and hate the job they do. I am now being worse with no reason as to why and i am so discouraged. I will never come back to this place again!Update: look at the response. This shows exactly what I said was true. No care at all, shameful.

We have had a great experience here! Dr. Mathison is absolutely amazing!! She is extremely knowledgeable and kind. She was always available for any questions we had during the pregnancy and made us feel reassured and at peace. She delivered our baby girl as well and it went so smoothly. We wouldn’t want anyone else to deliver our baby. The staff at the doctors office has always been kind as well. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience!

I have been a patient of Dr. Mathison for years. In addition to her welcoming nature, she is patient and thorough. She balances professionalism with empathy. Dr. Mathison listens, acknowledges your feelings and addresses your concerns. Avoid Dr. Lauretta and her care team if you value your health and pregnancy. All of my concerns were swept under a rug and they refused to do any monitoring. “I was young and never pregnant before” was her answer during a 2 minute appointment. She did no labs, no exam, not even any questions about my symptoms I came in for. I spent an entire week trying to reach her nurse Stephanie due to the concerns I brought up at my first appointment which were now extremely prominent. After still not hearing from anyone at the office I ended up having to go to the emergency room due to the concerns where they advised me that my pregnancy was no longer. They advised if more closely monitored the signs would have been caught earlier on but due to lack of care here that was not possible.

I’ve never had a regular gyno and after searching online & praying I find one, I ran across Dr Mathison . I felt I should try her out & I am so glad I listened to that feeling! Everything was a nice experience from the office, to the receptionist staff, to meeting Dr Mathison! She has a warm spirit! I came 15 mins early to my appointment & probably sat in the waiting room for less than 10 mins before I got called back(I had an afternoon appointment on a Wednesday) Maybe waited another 10 in the back room before she saw me for my regular checkup. Glad to have found my new dr!!

Always greeted with a smile and friendly women at the desk 😊 With only having come three times, no complaints here. Doctor Gray II, is very personable and makes you feel at ease. Listens and makes suggestions based off your needs and also doesnt make you feel rushed, which I have felt with a prior Doctor.10/10 I would recommend him for someone looking for an OBGYN

I thought this Was the best OBGYN around. Dr. Gray Senior delivered. My daughter, had a wonderful experience very disgusted with the staff. I had a nurse named Becky and she was being very rude to me. I stated that it was going to be a problem if I came in because my husband works nights, and somehow she switched around the story and they sent me a letter stating that I was no longer allowed to be a patient there for the miscommunication, I feel that this was totally blown out proportion and the sad thing is I was seen before I was serve this letter, and she was perfectly fine She was playing with my daughter and we were talking everything was fine. I’m also very disgusted because I had a follow up appointment after I reserve the letter and was told that there would be no issue and I had to reschedule my follow up appointment due To a family emergency when I called to reschedule it, they told me That I was no longer a patient there and I was served a letter so I’ve never gotten seen for a follow up after being told that I have ovarian cyst on both sides and one being very large now I’m Stuck trying to find A new OBGYN in the meantime. I never thought a doctor would drop someone with A condition - And treating them an not seeing them again.

To start, I have never written a review before but I feel like it’s my responsibility to do so. I read all of the incredible reviews of this place & that made me decide to book my first appointment. I have suffered with severe periods for 11 years & the fear of not being listened to or taken seriously kept me from making an appointment. When I finally got in to see Dr. Linda Mathison after a few months, I had high hopes to be able to have a sit-down conversation about my struggles & be understood. The moment I started talking to the nurse, I told her I wanted to figure out the root of my period related pain & the only response I got was “Birth control would take that all away.” After I said I was interested in exploring other options first. I got my pulse taken by the nurse & doctor & when it was extremely high due to being so nervous, I was never was asked if I was okay or comfortable. The doctor came in & without sitting down to talk to me about my struggles or questions, she started to get ready to do a pelvic exam without asking why I may not be comfortable in doing so.I’m writing this review for women who need to be listened to before having an invasive exam done without being asked if they have a history of trauma or reasons why it may be difficult for them.I paid $300 for this visit.I recommend this office if you are looking to only get on birth control within 10 minutes of speaking to a doctor & being entirely dismissed.I’m very disappointed considering this is a center for Women.I would say it’s a center for women who won’t be listened to by fellow women.

I absolutely love Virginia Center for Women. I am so elated to be a patient of Dr. Mathison. She is such an attentive, caring, and genuine doctor. Her bedside manner is out of this world! I feel like she is an old friend. She always takes her time to explain things to me and makes sure that I understand what is going on. She personally calls me to give me any results instead of having one of her staff do it. My only regret is that I found her too late. I know she would have made both of my pregnancies such a pleasurable experience. She really is amazing and I wish there were more doctors like her!

Everyone at this office is wonderful! I had to have a procedure done that I was nervous about but they made the whole experience so easy. The sweet nurse who checked me in could tell I was anxious and she did everything she could to calm my nerves. Dr. Laureta was amazing and she explained every detail of what was going on so that there were no surprises. I could tell she was confident in what she was doing. I felt very safe and reassured the entire time. I highly recommend this practice!

I wanted to like this place. The woman who took my vitals told me Id be pregnant on December 5th 2023. She said that was her estimation. Unprofessional and guess what... I wasnt. I didnt need the reminder. I went in to get tested for PCOS. Doc seemed frustrated I wanted this testing (why?) when tests came back she was fast to get me out of the office. Again, I just dont understand why. I felt like I was doing something wrong. Its my first time trying to get pregnant and were having difficulty. Lastly, there was so much back and forth on my insurance. We were in the middle of switching and they told me theyd run my old one because I was within the window. Then at my next visit I wasnt in the window, but they said I probably wouldnt have to pay since it was a regular check-up. Then they were sending me a bill for 1,000+ dollars. Talked to them over the phone and went back and forth until my husband talked to them. All of a sudden everything was $50... I have no idea what happened here but I left feeling uncomfortable and embarrassed.Ill never go back.

I really love Dr Mathison! She so nice, politely, and makes you feel so comfortable!! She did delivered my son as well did my surgery! So grateful that I could rely on such a wonderful lady!!! She is well recommended! Much love for Dr Mathison!

I have been coming to see Dr. Mathison for the past 8+ years, and I can not recommend her enough! She has always been so knowledgeable, kind, and personable, with excellent bedside manner. The care I received during both of my pregnancies, and even during my regular annual exams have always been a pleasant experience. The nurses and staff are also kind and wonderful, and scheduling appointments online have been easy and convenient.

Had a great experience here. I saw Dr. Lenny Laureta for my first annual exam. As nervous as I was, she was extremely professional and helped to put my mind at ease. It was over before I knew it and was completely painless! We discussed our options of getting pregnant and I am super excited to start my pregnancy journey with her as my doctor! ❤️

For many years, Dr. Mathison has been an amazing gynecologist for me. She is always kind, friendly, and thorough. If you are looking for a wonderful professional, I highly recommend her.

My doctor recommended a doctor there. I made an appointment via text. Got a text a bit later canceling the appointment and then a few days later confirming the original appointment. I get to the appointment and they tell me that the provider isnt available. I get rescheduled for 3 weeks later, show up to the appointment and am told again that the provider isnt in that day either. In neither case was I contacted before the appointment to be made aware that the doctor was not in. If theyre this cavalier about my time. I have a hard time believing they would take my health seriously.

Dr.Mathison is very welcoming and sweet. She really cares about her patients. My first visit I was very nervous and didn’t know what to expect but she made me feel at ease just off of her personality. I’ve been with her for a couple of years now she’s understanding and she makes the process comfortable. I totally recommend her!

I have been a patient of Virginia Center for Women for ten plus years. I started seeing Dr.Grey who is absolutely wonderful and so kind hearted. After building my trust with him, I needed to be seen on a day he was not available and that is when I met Dr.Mathison who blew my mind away with how comfortable she made me feel!! Always ready to listen to my concerns, answer any questions, and always provides me with guidance. I know I’m in the best care when I’m with Dr.Mathison! I had my first child in 2020 with the doctors of Virginia Center for Women and the way Dr.Mathison came in to check up on me post c-section just shows how much she cares about her patients. I can not say enough good things about how wonderful the doctors and staff are at this place, even Melody and Rachel provided me with such wonderful care during my pregnancy visits. 100% recommend this place for routine care, problem visits, or pregnancy. Plus as a military spouse I appreciate they accept patients with Tricare Select for insurance.

Absolutely the best Obgyn care center I have had. Dr. Mathision, Dr. Tracy Papp, and Dr. Derwin Gray ll all are Incredibly great at there job. I have been seen here for four years now and never had a bad experience. The entire staff is also extremely helpful and take pride in their work and interaction with eachother and the patients. My comfortability here is in high numbers. I also would like to give a big shout out to (Brittney) she works the lab for the center, your just awesome. Thank you all for your hard work and service I wouldn’t trade for another.

I have been going to Virginia Center for Women for 10+ years! Dr.Mathison is my favorite! Shes so kind and caring, she listens to all concerns and assure that you are comfortable! Dr.Gray Sr is also one of my favorites, he is funny and down to earth while being professional! This practice is highly recommended!

I’ve known Dr Mathison going on 6 years. I love her. She’s brilliant, compassionate, empathetic to my needs/ concerns. Her bedside manner is impeccable. (Feeling comfortable at your doctors office is a must) This is the highest level of care …mixed with professionalism that I’ve ever received while in the mainland….Dr Mathison is absolutely wonderful. From obstetrics to GYN. I have never EVER been dissatisfied. Choose Dr Mathison for your care. You will not be disappointed :-)

I have been going to Virginia Center for Women for the past 20 years and have been seeing Dr. Mathison for the last 8 years. Dr. Mathison is an absolutely amazing obstetrician and I would not trade her as my doctor for the world! She delivered my last 3 baby girls and also oversaw my last two pregnancies. Due to the larger size of my babies, each of my natural deliveries came with their challenges. Dr. Mathison was and is always very patient and takes her time with her patients. She ensures to answer any and all questions in order to keep you informed about your care. When you are in Dr. Mathison’s office, she is very warm and personable and does not make you feel like “a number.” If you are looking for a solid professional and knowledgeable doctor, go see Dr. Mathison… you will be in good hands.I can’t forget about Dr. Mathison’s nurse Shelly; she rocks, too!

I absolutely love Dr. Mathison. I’ve experienced infertility and a variety of other minor issues that required two surgeries. She’s exceptional - a true expert and professional. She explains things well and is personable and understanding. Even though I’ve moved and her office is quite far from me, she’s worth the drive.

I had an appointment today with the Dad Mr. Gray Sr. Whom Ive only seen twice with today making it my second time. I told him how I didnt care for the service there being the last couple times I felt as if they were telling me anything. Not only that one day I was bleeding and Im 8 months pregnant and when I tried to call to inform the Doctor, I didnt get in touch with no one. I felt as though they could have done a better job reaching back out to me. Anyways thats another issue. Today I expressed to Dr. Gray Sr that I was experiencing pain under the left side of my rib. He tells me its common and to take Tylenol. I felt as though he was telling me anything and told him how I felt like the Doctors there didnt really care and just telling me anything. Instead of him reassuring me thats whats not happening and him understanding that Im a pregnant 8 months Mom got really unprofessional and told me how I needed to find somewhere else to go. Not only was he unprofessional but I turn around and caught him kicking at me. Never in a million years have I ever seen an Dr act this way. He was very rude! I said to him I seen you just kick at me and he continues to say to me that I need to leave because I let him know how I felt. With this facility they dont make you feel as if they have your best interest. Its like its all about a check to them which Im sure it is. Im thinking about sending my lawyer up there to serve him some paperwork. I bet he wont treat no one else this way. I wouldnt recommend this facility to no one. Please do some research on these facilities please.

Dr. Mathison is simply the best OB/GYN. She is very gently. Voice is soothing. She makes you feel comfortable. I definitely trust her with all my needs

Dr. Mathison is an excellent physician. She combines her clinical knowledge with compassion and patience. Always accessible to address questions and concerns, she makes sure that she understands what her patients are experiencing and their health goals. Dr. Mathison has been my physician for 10+ years, and I appreciate how her clinical knowledge continues to expands to meet my physical changes and health goals.

Excellent doctor! Dr. Linda Mathison is outstanding. She is very genuine and I enjoy her as my gynecologist. The office is great with customer service. They get you in and out and I love that type of service. The staff is very friendly as well and I have been going there for over 5 years and the smiling faces are the same. I like that.

UPDATE: I’ve seen Dr. Lauretta the other times i’ve gone and she amazing as always. I saw Mel today and WOW! I loved her. I tend to be a worrier and she addressed any and all concerns with such kindness and care. I could tell she cared about making sure I left feeling at completely peace with all of my questions answered. Amazing experience. Front desk and nurse were angels too. LOVE this place.

Dr Mathison delivered both of my children, 9 and 10 years ago. I absolutely loved her. She listened and worked with me. She was firm when necessary, I was going through serious personal issues with my second, but was understanding as well. I couldn’t have asked for anyone better, she is wonderful.

Dr. Mathison has been my physician since 2009. She has always been knowledgeable, reliable, honest, and diligent when it comes to my care. She is also warm and kind hearted. I have trusted her with my life twice, with two surgeries. Dr. Mathison is an excellent surgeon and practioner. I really appreciate all she has done for me.

Dr Gray is funny try to make you relax and comfortable been going here for some years love him. Today i had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Mathison she was so amazing her presence gives you reassurance that everything is going to be ok and she takes her time to let you know she cares love her😊Thank you to the staff also great team...Highly recommend this office.

If it wasnt for Dr mathison I wouldnt be going to this practice. I have been a patient here since 2019. My first experience here wasnt great. A nurse practitioner who is still an employee at the practice on the first floor. Was trying to inform me that I had pcos told me she was going to run test and even call me in a week. (Im still waiting on that call btw lol) I never believed her. Something told me to book an appointment with Dr mathison. Dr mathison got right to the issue no PCOS. Made me feel comfortable, I truly feel the nurse practitioner was reading someone else results. No signs of PCOS showed up in my blood test nor have a ever missed my period I love Dr mathison, she was recommended to me by my coworker.

Ive been a long standing patient @this practice since the birth of my son in 2007. Everyone is ALWAYS super friendly and VERY thorough... and I mean EVERYONE - from the front desk, to the lab tech, to the ultrasound technician... down to the Nurses, and the Drs. Ive had the pleasure of being cared for by all of the Drs, but my top care physicians w/the practice are Dr. Gray & Dr. Mathison... Ive referred 2 family members, and 3 coworkers to this facility, as well. I appreciate EVERYTHING they do to keep this body of mine moving in tip-top condition! ❤

They are always friendly at this location. My doctor, Dr Mathison, is the best!. She is very attentive to my concerns and she is very pleasant. I like how she enters the room smiling, speaks to me by my name, asks what is going on even thought she has read the notes prior to and then addresses the issue. I don’t feel rushed as a patient. I’ve been going here for 13 years. Dr. Mathison is amazing, so is Dr. Gray. Great bedside manner. I can speak with them about anything regarding sexual health and not feel uncomfortable. All of the nurse practitioners, nursing staff, and reception staff are amazing as well.

I was in search of a new OB doctor due to my previous one leaving the practice that I was going to. After my research I settled on this practice. I could not be happier with the decision. The entire staff is friendly and takes the needed time with you during each visit. Also being able to text with the office is an added plus. On Dec 5th my daughter was delivered by Dr. Gray II. He was very professional and ensured my husband and I knew exactly what was going on. I would highly recommend Dr Gray II and this practice to anyone looking for a caring family atmosphere.

Drs. Gray and Mathison are phenomenal doctors who trulycare about their patients. They are the best of the best! Ive had a total of 4 OB/GYN doctors over the years and only wish that I knew Dr. Gray from the beginning. Finally, after 16 years of going there they had the awesome privilege of delivering my last child. All the staff are so kind. And what can I say about Tracy Papp.... I love, love her. She has been there for me, always caring and taking the time to explain the smallest details.

At 35w of pregnancy, my insurance changed and I had to find a new OBGYN. This was especially nerve wrecking in the last few weeks of my pregnancy, and I wasn’t sure how it was going to go with the transfer and everything, as I had been at a separate office up until then. Honestly, the insurance change was a great thing because Virginia Center for Women is incredible.The nurses, nurse practitioners, doctors, and office workers have all been great. I visited with each OBGYN at the office, but mainly saw Dr. Gray Sr. and Dr. Gray Jr. I really couldn’t ask for two better physicians to have seen.Both physicians have wonderful bedside manner and are kind, helpful, patient, informative, professional, and made me feel extremely comfortable as a new patient of the practice.They truly listened to me as the patient while offering sound advice through my 41w pregnancy. Dr. Gray Sr delivered my healthy baby and I am so thankful for the level of care provided.Even though this center is a little further from home, I will continue to go here for any gynecological concerns/visits.

This office is everything!!! The staff are all great! I have been a patient of Dr. Mathisone for the last 12 years and it’s been amazing for me! I have been going to this office since 2006 & I love them! My primary doctor is Dr. Mathison & I absolutely love her. She delivered both of my babies. One in 2007 & one in 2018. I also love Dr. Gray, he is very knowledgeable also! The both of them care about you & your unborn child. They both got special testing I needed, payed close attention to my situation to keep us safe throughout the pregnancy. Dr. Mathison delivered my baby via emergency section & was so fast I could believe it! I ended up have preeclampsia after I gave birth & she suspected it & sent me right over to the hospital for testing from her office. That call could’ve saved my life! I was in back in the hospital but I was glad I was getting the help I needed. He & Dr. Gray came to check on me when I was hospitalized the 2nd & 3rd time. I can’t say better things about her & Dr.Gray.

My initial visit with Dr. Mathison was the best experience I have had with any OB/GYN. I have had a few different OB/GYNs over the past few years due to changes in insurance, doctors changing practices, etc. For the most part, my past experiences were fine, but Dr. Mathison was by far the best. She was very pleasant, patient, informative, and most of all- gentle. I typically get anxious at these type of appointments. Going into this appointment, I was definitely anxious, but Dr. Mathison’s demeanor from start to finish immediately put me at ease. Although I did not let it show, the anxiety I felt walking into this appointment quickly dissipated from the moment she greeted me with such a warm smile and easy conversation. She addressed all of my questions and concerns and explained everything. I could not believe that she had completed the exam and it was painless. I left that appointment feeling relieved and excited to have her as my provider. As long as Dr. Mathison practices, I plan to be a life long patient of hers.

Absolutely Love It Here. I felt safe and cared for throughout my pregnancy. I love Dr.Mathison , Thankfully she was on call when It was time to deliver ( I didn’t want anyone else). Due to covid my mom wasn’t allowed only my S/O being that we are first time parents I didn’t know what to expect. I kept expressing I was “ scared “ She kept reassuring me, coached me through the birth & i got her out in 10 mins !Dr. Gray ( the father ) is great as well . NEVER a dull moment with him !

I have been going to Dr. Mathison for over 10 years. She is fast, kind and efficient! I really appreciated the whole staff! They are very organized. Specifically with Covid-19 they follow CDC guidelines making it a safe environment. Also, I love the convenience of the self-check in accessible from my phone. I have been going to VCW for the last 7-8 years and I absolutely love Dr.Gray as my OBGYN! He has delivered my first two sons and now he will be delivering my b/g twins! He is knowledgeable, caring, funny , and make my all around experience from his office to the surgery in the hospital more comfortable! Loved this office until they gave me a $900 shot with no warning on how costly that shot was. I would’ve passed on it had I known how expensive it was. Now I am being told we have no fertility coverage whereas before the shot, the office said we had some fertility coverage. Nobody checked prior to that shot?! Time for a new office. Avoid Dr Lauerta. During the appointment she failed to disclose any risks associated with a trigger shot but made it very clear that I needed one. Instead of explaining the risks of te shot, she explained periods to the med student and my husband who were in the room. Great job, except your job was your patient, not my husband.Eta: several days later I am now receiving repetitive emails and text messages that I am beginning to consider harassing due to their frequency regarding my balance from the shot.Eta2: last night I was in the ED for six hours because I’ve been so nauseous for three days that I now can’t eat and my abdomen hurts worse than childbirth. The ED determined after a pelvic exam, ultrasound and blood work that fertility treatments by Dr Lauerta was the reason for the nausea and abdominal pain. This morning I feel just as bad as I did when I went into the ED yesterday.Eta3: it’s now been 12 days and I still cannot eat normally because of nausea. I am finally back to work (missed three days last week) though I am feeling about 89-90% of my normal self. My abdomen is still bloated with pressure and the clinical team here NEVER CALLED. Billing has called.. I don’t know how many times. The priorities of this office are clear.Eta3: it took 13 days to feel normal again and ow I see I have a $700 bill again for the shot and ultrasounds (I thought I already paid $289 for the ultrasound and exam). Beware of this clinic.

Dr. Mathison-Ezieme is fantastic; kind, straightforward, and professional. She’s been my GYN since the birth of my first child and it’s been wonderful to build a repor with her. I always have a good experience at VA Center for Women and would highly recommend the practice.

Dr. Mathison is the most unprofessional doctor that I have ever talk to. It is likely because she ownes the practice. She yelled at my wife in her practice simply because she refused Glucose test. She lied on the records and said she refused Rhogam and one more test to make my wife look like she is again at all the test therefore she is not going to take for as a patient. Actually we are not going to take her as a doctor. When I went to office to talk to a manager about Mathisons bad attitude, manager understood what was going on but since Dr. Mathison owns the practice they had no choice but to be on her side. So I took my wifes records and transfer to a different practice. It is unfortunate that she works with Dr. Gray who I believe great person to deal with and very knowledgable.Reason I wrote this review is just I dont want anyone else to waste their important time and give their trust to someone who simply doesnt care about them.

I have been seen by Virginia Center for Women since I was 17 years old. I have always received exceptional service from Dr. Mathison and members of the practice. Dr. Gray, even delivered me when I was a baby! So, this practice has been apart of my family for years. I highly recommend it!

I had to have a procedure done... No you dont need to know what. I will say that Dr Gray Jr. Was wonderful from pre surgery to post and all after care. I felt heard safe and he explained everything step by step before during and after. The staff has been kind and quick to get all paperwork done for my time off work and temp disability.

I had came in to see Dr. Laureta last November for a yearly/miscarriage follow up. She tried to tell me i did not have pcos after being diagnosed years prior. Out of confusion I asked to have blood work done. I got a call confirming my already known diagnosis of pcos given the lab results. I had to have another follow up this year for three different issues as stated in my message I typed up to get an appt, I had done my research and found Dr. Mathison-Ezieme and was very excited to meet her only to be told you can choose 2 out of your 3 issues to discuss because of the type of appt you made I was taken back by that comment from a doctor but chose the two issues that were more emergent than the third. I told her I had a lot of concern about a lump in my breast and pretty bad pelvic pain. She was in and out in what felt like less than 5 minutes. During my pelvic exam I was in tears due to pain and was told everything looks fine. I had told her my mom has atypical lobular hyperplasia and asked if it was hereditary/genetic and she cut me off to say no, after doing my own research i did find that its absolutely possible. I felt no kind of validation or understanding. She stated we can schedule out two ultrasounds for your issues but everything looks fine. She talked over me and interrupted me numerous times. I work at a specialty doctors office myself and can not even begin to imagine one of our doctors treating a patient the way she treated me. Im extremely disappointed in the practice as a whole given my two awful experiences with two completely different doctors. Patients should find a safe place within the walls of their obgyns practice and I felt anything but comfortable.

I came here for my first baby and had a great experience. I saw Dr Grey, Dr Mathison and Dr Loretta throughout my pregnancy. Dr Mathison delivered my baby. I’ve also seen Dr Grey and Dr Loretta following two miscarriages and have really appreciated how kind and caring they are. Highly recommend this practice

The staff is friendly and my doctor was super professional and friendly as well. Getting my IUD here was a breeze. I would recommend this place to anyone who needs a general checkup or to anyone who wants to explore a birth control option. This is just the place for that!

One of the receptionist is so sweet I will miss seeing her, the others not so friendly. The customer service is not great at all because you wait for over an hour to be seen, sometimes 2 hours. I will miss about 3 staff members but the rest were just there for $$ it seems as you are just a number. Please be advised that you maybe asked for blood when you have already given it and it maybe lost. The office is clean and was convenient but I want a better overall experience for my last child. I had my 9 year old with this center and the experience was awful so silly me for even staying as long as I did with this pregnancy. I had to have a blood transfusion when I had my 9 yr old and I was told it happens, no I was cut and it was on video too. Dr Hammer and Dr Gray are awesome doctors. Doesnt mean I will have one of them for my delivery in 4 months.

Melody tapp is an amazing doctor and I would recommend her to every women I know. She makes it a point to make you feel completely comfortable even in a situation where most women are not. She also explains everything to you from start to finish so youre not left with any questions and she is amazing at assisting you if you have billing concerns. After being a patient here for 6yrs I’ve decided to leave. I’ve been making monthly payments sometimes twice a month and unable to get an appointment. I was advise if I get the balance down to half I can be seen and now they are saying I can not. Love the doctors but it’s sad when you have patients who are making their payments and can’t even been seen for their free routinely check ups. Even spoke with office manager and she sees I’ve been making payments just couldn’t help me. So I’ll pay what I owe but will be going somewhere else who cares about their patients well being and will also no longer recommend anyone to this establishment.

Dr. Mathison is the BEST! I highly recommend her. She is always there when you need her and I have never had any issues with her. She cares about your needs and is very quick to respond.

This place is unprofessional , liars, and prejudice. I came in for my first appointment since I’m pregnant and immediately felt uneasy. When I walked in I was greeted and taken to the back for my weight , was told immediately since I don’t take blood that they can’t treat me because Chesapeake Regional does not accept patients or treat patients who don’t accept blood. I immediately knew that was a lie because my friend just gave birth there ! She doesn’t accept blood because of our religious beliefs. If you did not want to continue my treatment , simply say that. But instead they were going to transfer my care all the way to Norfolk . I’m not mad at the fact they didn’t want to treat me it’s the fact that they lied and tried to put it on the hospital . Anywho ! I will not be going back and I will never refer anyone to this specialty .

The staff is polite. I had no wait time. Dr. Hammer is highly professional . He speaks directly, gives pertinent information...has a good sense of humor! Hands down, best OBGYN Specialist in VA and NC!

I have had a wonderful experience at Virginia center for women. I have seen all of the doctors and every visit had been a positive one and all of my questions have been answered! Then only negative I have experienced was when I received the phone call to schedule my induction. The nurse who called me made me feel like I was interrupting her day having to schedule my induction. She sighed heavily and told me she didnt want to get into any questions about labor and delivery even though I hadnt asked her anything. I got off the phone just feeling really badly even though I hadnt done anything wrong.

I love Dr. Mathison. She is simply amazing and awesome physician. She listens and that is most important, when it comes to patient care.

Dr Mathisone was the first Gynecologist I saw when I moved here ten years ago and when I had to switch because of insurance issues I went back to her as soon as I could. she is always pleasant, professional and gentle.

Called to see if Dr. was accepting new patients. Had the displeasure of speaking with Barbara. What an absolutely vile woman. She asked what I wanted to be seen for, cut me off after, Regular check up and-- then began to ramble about STD testing. I waited until she was finished and told her I didnt need STD testing. She laughed and replied, Well, if you need it, you can ask them, in a condescending tone. I let that go and we continued. She asked me which Dr. I wanted to see, my phone number and name, etc. She then asked for my address and when I told her the city, she said, You can just tell me the zip code, in a very rude manner. OKAY, now Im irritated. Why is this woman speaking to me this way? I gave her the zip code and she proceeds to argue that I dont live in the city that I told her (she is arguing the county name). She finally realizes this and sarcastically replies, Ohhhh, youre absolutely right, I am SOO sorry. At this point I had enough. I have never experienced so much sass to schedule an appointment. I told her to cancel everything, gave her a piece of my mind and hung up. She called right back. I didnt answer, I was livid and also anxious that she was calling to patronize me some more. She left a whimpering voice-mail. This lady is a nut job.Signed, a medical professional.

I have seen Dr Mathison on two occasions and it has both been brilliant. Staff are polite and professional. Thank you for all you do. We appreciate you for your warm personalities.

I will never attend this OB again due to the fact that I feel like a number as well. The only Doctors I like alot and enjoy talking to are the 2 male doctors and they are father and son. Everyone else does not interact like they do. They just want their money and get you out. They are never organized and they never tell you anything correctly.

Every time I try to set an appointment I get put on hold to talk to the billing department where I was billed an extra $400 for appointments I never was seen at! I’m 15 weeks pregnant and haven’t been seen once! When they “transfer” me I’m on hold for 20 mins plus until I eventually hang up! I used to love this OB not so much anymore sadly.

So glad I left for Riverside OB. First due to the dr nor scheduling me on time I missed out on genetic testing for my daughter(which they tried to blame me for and say it was my fault for not getting labs THAT I WASNT SCHEDULED FOR done. & then told Riverside i denied the testing.) Due to car trouble I had to reschedule an appointment, wrote down the date and time (and had her on speaker so my husband could verify *pregnancy brain is no joke) and when i got there they told me it was for the day before and I had to reschedule again. I was already over my 4 weeks at this point. Finally get to the new appointment, my doctor (who i never see more than 45 seconds) wasn’t even there and I got a new doctor who hadn’t even looked at my file. I always get there a little earlier so I’m not rushing to get up the steps (which i prefer). When the new doctor called me back (10 minutes early) she decided instead of saying good morning she would just let me know I’m earlier then her nurses but she will try and do everything herself. Thanks for the fun fact. She proceeded to ask me questions that my file could’ve answered and after the third question she decided to actually get my file. I found out i failed my 1hr glucose but now that I’m at riverside they let me know i can take the 3 hour that wasn’t even offered at VCW before an actual diagnosis can properly be made. Back to VCW, my blood pressure was high (which i explained normally is first round because the cuff causes anxiety) but she didn’t care. Off to Chesapeake Regional she sent me where after 4 hours they told me my blood pressure was very good. Oh but not before stopping what she was doing to tell me that if I don’t live in Chesapeake that I can’t be seen there and need to find a new doctor. She literallyy put my file down and took her glasses off to tell me that. I recently moved from Chesapeake to NN and while I knew the doctors would not travel all the way to Riverside my question was simply could I keep coming to the doctor and have a random doctor deliver me when I’m in NN. I wouldn’t care. Just get the baby out. Too bad I didn’t get the question out before Dr Mathisons rude comment. Now I’m at Riverside at 33 weeks and even they told me I could’ve kept seeing my doctor and just had the baby in Newport News. Which sounds like it makes perfect sense. So glad I’m done with VCW (who also violated HIPPA by speaking to my mom about my record and the transfer of my records without verifying who she was. She isn’t on any of my paperwork. But that’s a whole other issue. Just glad to be done.

I’ve been going to Virginia Center for Women for 30+ year. They delivered both my sons. The staff and providers are very professional, patient and kind. I highly recommend anyone looking for a GYN provider.

Really irritated with poor care from this office (Virginia Center for Women 1101 Madison Plaza, Chesapeake, VA). The staff, nurses and doctors are nice for the most part. However, politeness doesnt fix medical issues nor pay the insurance bill for in-office triplicated (and more) testing, 2nd opinions and ER visits.1. Im told ultrasounds are normal in the office then learn in a phone conversation the results arent normal.2.Im scheduled for special testing, come in and told I shouldnt of been scheduled in the first place b/c Im not a good candidate for the procedure.3. I sometimes wait 30 min to an hour before being seen despite arriving early or on-time.4. The ER doctor discovers abnormalities with their ultrasound done despite having the exact same one completed by this OBGYN less than 48 hours prior and told it was normal.5. My concerns are taken lightly until something severe happens.6. It takes another doctor (unrelated to this practice) advising supplement needed to quickly improve iron deficiency when the dramatic drop was discovered by the OBGYN practice.7. My doctors assigned nurse makes little to no effort to seriously address valid issues.8. I was advised by the ER to follow-up with my OBGYN so followed this instruction. I called the OBGYN and that doctors nurse just says Im scheduled for surgery already (in a month) so just need to wait...with no intent to assist controlling the medical issue until surgery despite physically getting worse.9. I found it necessary to be respectfully blunt w/the OBGYN docs nurse so she seriously attempts to address the issue (after just released from the ER that morning). She stated the doctor is in surgery at the moment and promised a return call later that day..........just to never call me back!!!10. I called my insurance companys Ask-A-Nurse for advisement over concerns listed above with this OBGYN. The nurse strongly advised to get a 2nd opinion because this OBGYN seems to not fully disclose information, doesnt seem to have an organized plan leading up to the point of surgery and Im not receiving an important (and promised) return call by anyone at the practice to address the ER-related issue.I went to this business with legitimate concerns to attempt resolving. Their trial-and-error tactics failed and now I have a month to enjoy the results of these failed resolutions until surgery occurs...if it occurs. Cant have surgery with a severe iron deficit and the nurse thinks nothing is needed to be addressed until then despite increased bleeding and severe pain! Maybe thats why she never returned my call today? Guess the ER visit isnt valid in her view either. I understand Dr. Geary is busy, as the staff DO double and triple-book her all the time. However, if she cant call or see me then Im trusting her nurse to provide the professional courtesy of a return call and seriously address the matter instead of shuffling it off. Her nor Dr. Geary are the ones experiencing the aftermath of their failed attempts to fix my problem. They dont have to deal with being terminated for having to leave work on multiple occasions due to excessive bleeding that damages the office chairs or the humiliation trying to carefully walk to the bathroom with blood going down your legs. I do not recommend this practice at all.

This was the most wonderful experience I’ve had visiting a doctors office in a while! From the moment I signed in with the front desk to the personal connections I made with the nurses and physicians. I will be recommending this practice to all my Family and Friends. This place is absolutely horrible!!! I sat in the waiting room for 2 hours prior to being called back . The nurse was nice but thats about it and then I was sent to the room to wait on the doctor. My doctors name was doctor Loretta and she did not take any of my concerns seriously......she made smart comments while blaming my problems on totally unrelated topics. She examed me for maybe a total of 30 seconds and said everything looked normal and didnt give me one single test to confirm if anything was wrong . She wasnt in the room with me for 5 minutes!!! She did not ease my mind as a doctor should and I left feeling even worse then before I went !!! I felt like a joke for even going to the doctor when everyone tells you if you are concerned about your body, go to the doctor!!!! She gave me one standard blood test and 2 days later they havent called me nor returned my calls. Do yourself a favor and go to another obgyn or at least dont go to this doctor . NEVER again will I . Btw I have never in my life left a bad review for anybody until now so that says alot

I have always felt I was in the best of care with Dr Gray .. He Is very thorough, thoughtful, caring and makes you feel as if you are his only patient. He is one special man that truly cares for his patients.

I spent more time in the waiting room than I did with the Dr. I forgot to get a note so I could go back to work and apparently that’s a big deal and everyone has to keep getting a message to the dr. She never even addressed my issue nor scheduled my follow up. I feel like I’m being given the runaround. Needless to say I have an appointment with another gynecologist this week and will hopefully have better luck there

Absolutely awful bedside manner. I went in for a routine exam. I was treated as if I was nothing more than a cadaver on a cold metal slab in the morgue. When I asked questions about the vaccine, I was given more so personal thoughts versus scientific or medical thoughts. She told me nothing more than “just get it”. Worst mistake of my life seeing Dr. Laureta.

Very poor customer service! Dont waste your time; you will feel like a number. I waited over 40 minutes for blood work, and the receptionist stated I need to go downstairs to the first floor and ask them to send up the paperwork. This could have been avoided with a simple call.

Dr. Mathison is easy to talk to and makes me feel seen. She answers/addresses all of my questions and concerns.

Moved to Virginia recently & needed a Gyno! So glad I found this practice & Dr. Gray! Answered all my questions and calmed my nerves thank you so much!

Kept calling around 2pm until they finally turn phones back on around 2:15. Immediately put on hold for ten minutes. Called back. Hold again for ten minutes. Call a third time , I ask them hey didn’t you just get back from break ?”yeah and we’ve been getting calls” ... when I know I was like one of the first ones calling. Then I waited and called a fourth time , finally being like is there someone I can talk to about becoming a new patient. Put on hold again only to be hung up on deliberately.

She is a beautiful person as well as a good Dr I will always be grateful to her cause between my prayers and her expertise we save my Granddaughter ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Dr. Mathison is outstanding. She provides outstanding services. The staff at Virginia Center for Women are all outstanding.

The worst service ever seen. We transferred from VA Beach to Atalanta and requested more than 15min to transfer the medical records there is no response at all. When we try to reach there is no response and it seems their working hours are less then lunch hours and always saying lunch time. Its really frustrated and this is not the way of treating the people.

Routine exam. Was in and out within 40 minutes which I think is better than average. They are always friendly. Dr. M is always very kind and attentive.

Had a bad over the phone experience with Barbara she was so rude and unprofessional I was telling her how I had a miscarriage before and that I wanted to get checked out to see if I was fine and she knew how I felt but still said that the bleeding Im experiencing is going to get worse and if I am going to have a miscarriage there is nothing I can do about it made me more worried then I already was cant believe someone like her works there I will definitely not be making a appointment there cause of her
